Suzuki Powers New Coulam Marine Casualty Recovery Vessel

Coulam Marine 6.1 CRV

Reliable Power for Lifesaving Vessel

Coulam Marine is demonstrating the Coulam 6.1 CRV, a new Suzuki-powered prototype Casualty Recovery Vessel developed in partnership with Zelim, at Seawork 2026.

Based on Coulam’s established V20 platform, the 6.1m CRV has been designed for commercial casualty recovery applications and is currently in the prototype stage.

The vessel is powered by a Suzuki DF90A outboard, selected to provide dependable performance for operators working in demanding commercial environments. The DF90A package supports the vessel’s practical working role while offering a compact and efficient power option suited to the V20 platform.

Developed as a working prototype between Coulam Marine and Zelim, the Coulam 6.1 CRV combines specialist casualty recovery systems with an opening bow door. This includes an integrated rotating casualty recovery ramp, specifically designed to allow access directly to the water during a rescue incident.

The project combines Coulam’s experience in practical commercial vessel design with Zelim’s expertise in casualty recovery technology. Together, the companies are developing a purpose-built craft aimed at operators requiring a compact, capable and highly focused recovery vessel.

Visitors to Seawork will be able to view the Coulam 6.1 CRV at the show, berth VA19, allowing commercial operators and interested parties to see the prototype vessel and its casualty recovery configuration first-hand.

The Coulam 6.1 CRV remains at the prototype stage, with pricing available on application.

Jim Coulam, Founder and Managing Director of Coulam Marine, said, “With over 12 months in development, the prototype has already proved itself at a test facility under demanding conditions. The next stage is to build the first production model to SOLAS regulations that will be launched later this year. First choice outboards have always been Suzuki because of their proven track records in commercial applications.”

Mark Beeley, Head of ATV & Marine at Suzuki GB, said, “We’re proud to be powering this impressive vessel and to strengthen our relationship with Coulam Marine. Our outboard motors support many commercial operations, and to be trusted with a vessel tasked with casualty recovery is a testament to the confidence in our engines.”
